Glorious Garlic

Getting a cold during the winter months is almost inevitable, and once one person in the home has a cold chances are everyone else will go down with it too.  However before you banish the sniffler and push them away with a pole should they dare to come too close to you with their sneezy germs, there are some good ol home remedies that can boost your immune system and help to alleviate the cold symptoms, and best of all you probably already have them in your home, one of which is garlic.

Garlic is great for when you have a cold.  It contains antioxidants which help boost your immune system and help your body to function properly.  It is also antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal.

The oil in garlic is a natural expectorant which helps your body break up mucus in your nose, throat and chest to help ease and clear congestion.  Garlic is high in vitamins B6 and C, iron, calcium, selenium, potassium, zinc, magnesium and manganese.
Now I like garlic but I’m not going to sit there and eat a raw clove so what are some other ways you can take garlic?   You can make a tea by placing a couple of cloves into a mug of hot water for 5-10 minutes and then drinking it but if even that is not to your taste a quick and easy way is to make garlic oil.
  1. Simply crush or chop 2 cloves of garlic in a bowl and cover with olive oil (not too much, just enough so the pieces of garlic are covered).
  2. Leave for 20-30 minutes and then rub on to the soles of your feet and cover with socks.  Let soak in or leave on all night.

Simply, easy, quick and best of all effective.
